Alayna Contreras earns All-Summit Second Team, Oliveira Dias named to All-Newcomer Squad
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Kansas City Women's Basketball was honored with two postseason awards, the Summit League announced today. Alayna Contreras solidified her spot on the All-Summit Second team and Ana Oliveira Dias was honored on the All-Newcomer Squad. The Roos' recognition by the Summit League is backed by their strongest conference record of the Coach Jackson-Durrett era which allows them to enter the conference tournament as the No. 6 seed.
Contreras was a critical piece on Kansas City's offense making starts in all 16 conference games, shooting 44.8% from three, and putting up four 30-plus point performances and another five 20-plus point performances. She leads KC in points (334), three-pointers (39), and minutes (577) in conference play. She ranks in the top three of three major categories in the Summit League, ranking third in points (20.9 per game), second in three-pointers (2.4 per game) and tying for second in minutes (36.1 per game). Across the season, Contreras ranks in the top 100 nationally in both minutes and points per game. She's 71st in the nation for minutes averaging 34.62 per game and  77th in points per game with 17.4 per game in the regular season.
She set new career highs on four occasions throughout conference play, most recently earning a career-high 35 points at North Dakota on March 1. At North Dakota, Contreras had a 19-point third quarter with 5-of-6 shooting outside the arc. She added two free throw makes, an assist and a steal across the ten minutes of play. On Jan. 25 she earned a career-high 32 points in the 66-65 win over Omaha. She went 13-of-25 from the field, and 4-of-7 beyond the arc with three rebounds, four assists, and four steals to help the Roos to a comeback victory. She becomes the first Roo during the Jackson Durrett era to be honored on the second team and is the only repeat postseason award recipient after being honored on the All-Newcomer Team last year.
Oliveira Dias was a pesky defender for the Roos in her first year in Kansas City. She made appearances in 15 of Kansas City's conference matchups and leads the Roos in steals with 20 across conference play. In the Summit, she ranks 11th in steals per game (1.3) and 13th in assists (2.4 per game). Throughout the season she ranks 226th nationally in steals averaging 1.77 per game. Dias is tied for second on the team in assists with 36 and averages 2.8 points per game. She logged seven multi-steal games across conference play, including two four-steal games against Denver on Jan. 15 and Oral Roberts on Jan. 22. Dias earned another ten multi-assist games including a career-high tying six against Omaha on Feb. 8. The Brazil native spent a year at Salt Lake City CC before joining KC. The All-Newcomer Team shout marks the first Summit League recognition of her career.
