Kansas City earns one more All-League selection than the 2023-24 season
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. --Â Kansas City Track and Field earns high recognition from the Summit League as eight Roos make the 2025 Summit League Indoor Track & Field All-League team following this past weekend's conference meet. The Summit League's All-League team was decided through giving bids to athletes who finished in the top three in an event at the Summit League Indoor Championships.Â
Seven Kansas City athletes obtained spots on the All-League team on the men's side, including Tory Lanham, Junior Powell, Amari Eugene, Logan Pratt, Arvesta Schine, Najee Simpson and Nahshon Houston. On the women's side, McKenzie Pearson was the lone Roo to make the conference's All-League team.Â
Lanham reached the All-League team through his brilliance in the 60m, 200m and the 4x400m relay races. The sophomore collected the silver medal in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.82 seconds and the gold medal in the 200-meter dash, taking the tape in 21.07 seconds. Following a speedy second leg in the Roos second place 4x400 relay performance, Lanham was awarded with the Men's Track Championship MVP trophy for his skills.Â
Powell gets a spot on the All-League team thanks to his bronze medal performance in the 60-meter dash. The junior darted towards the line at a pace of 6.83 seconds in the 60m final and notched a time of 6.79 seconds in the prelims. Powell ran well for the Roos all season, darting a season-best time of 6.77 in the Washburn Open.Â
Eugene drew his first All-League bid as a newcomer with his third place finish in the 200-meter dash, running a 21.59 at the conference meet. Eugene joined the team in late January, showcasing a 22.07 at the Washburn Open. The freshman improved remarkably over the latter half of the season and was rewarded for his efforts with a bronze medal.Â
Houston established himself as the conference's best men's long jumper, holding the top spot in the Summit League for the majority of the indoor season. Houston reinforced that notion at the Summit League Indoor Championships, recording a mark of 7.39 meters to earn the gold medal for the event and nearly equal his career best long jump mark of 7.40 meters.Â
Pearson made a splash in her 2025 season debut, registering a triple jump mark of 12.51 meters which tabbed her as a silver medalist for the competition. Pearson not only got second at the Summit League Indoor Championships, she also set a new Kansas City program record with her latest jump, surpassing Dee Dee Fortman as the Roos new all-time women's indoor triple jump leader.Â
Kansas City worked their way to a team silver medal in the men's 4x400 meter relay as the squad who did it consisted of Simpson, Lanham, Schine and Pratt. The Roos ran a second place time of 3:13.19, falling just behind South Dakota State in a close four lap battle that was decided within just a second.
