First Five
- Kansas City Men's Basketball opens the month of March with its regular season finale against St. Thomas in Minnesota on Saturday evening. The Roos are 5-5 in their last 10 regular season finales, including a 1-1 mark under Head Coach Marvin Menzies.
- The scenarios are clear as mud when it comes to seeding for the Summit League Tournament next week, but one thing is for sure: a win against the Tommies puts Kansas City clear of the play-in game on Wednesday evening. All four of Saturday's games hold seeding implications, with possibilities for the Roos to be seeded as high as #6 or as low as #9.
- Jamar Brown logged his seventh double-double of the season in Thursday's Senior Night win over Denver, going for 25 points and 11 boards. He ranks second in the Summit League and 73rd in the nation in double-doubles this season and is fourth in the KC record book with 14 on his career.
- The Roos' defense showed up against the Pioneers, holding Denver to just 16 points in the first half and 56 on the game, the lowest by a KC opponent since a league-opening win over USD on Jan. 2. Kansas City tallied 11 steals on the night, their most against a Division One opponent this season.
- Melvyn Ebonkoli has emerged as a scoring option in the past few weeks, averaging 10.3 points per game across the last seven games and breaking double-digits four times. His season average has gone from 5.6 to 6.9 ppg since Feb. 6.
Scouting St. Thomas
- St. Thomas enters Saturday's game with a 21-9 record, sitting at 11-4 in conference play with an outside shot at the #1 seed in the Summit League Tournament.Â
- The Tommies are 13-0 at home this season, winning 12 of those games by at least six points. The closest call came in a one-point win over SDSU on Jan. 8.
- UST is the best shooting team in the Summit League, ranking first in field goal percentage at 49.9% and second in three-point percentage at 39.4%.
- Kansas City took the first three meetings between these two teams but the Tommies have won the last four for a 4-3 advantage all-time.Â
- St. Thomas won the first meeting this season, a 68-65 decision on Jan. 25. Babacar Diallo led KC with a career-high 21 points on 4-of-5 three-point shooting in that game.
