Kansas City Notes
- Kansas City Men's Basketball hits the road for the first time this season, traveling to Carbondale for a meeting with Southern Illinois on Friday. This is the first time in the Marvin Menzies era that the Roos' road opener comes against a non-power conference opponent.
- The Roos opened the season with an 80-74 win over Evangel on Monday evening, erasing a halftime deficit to start 1-0 for the third-straight season.
- Returners Jayson Petty and Kasheem Grady II led the way for Kansas City in the season-opening win. Petty went for 18 points on 4-of-8 three point shooting, adding a career-high four assists. Grady scored 12 off the bench, sinking four free throws in the game's final 30 seconds to secure the win.
- Kansas City welcomes a host of fresh faces to the squad this season as 13 players are first-year Roos. CJ Evans, Karmello Branch, Chris Dockery and Addarin Scott all earned starts in their Kansas City debuts.
- Dockery proved his rebounding prowess against the Valor, pulling down 11 defensive and 13 total boards. He is one of only 15 players so far this season to grab 11-plus defensive rebounds in a game and it was the most by a Kansas City player since Melvyn Ebonkoli went for 12 on Nov. 8, 2024.
- Southern Illinois enters Friday's game with a 1-0 record, opening the season with an 83-42 win over McKendree. The Salukis were 14-19 last season, falling to top-seeded Drake in the MVC Semifinals.
- Quel'ron House led the Salukis' offensive charge in the win over McKendree, scoring 18 points in his first game for SIU.
- Last season, Southern Illinois posted a top-100 field goal percentage, shooting 46.1% from the field. That mark was the 7th-best in the Missouri Valley and 98th in the NCAA.
- This will be the first-ever meeting between the Roos and the Salukis. Kansas City holds a 1-0 record against MVC teams in the Marvin Menzies era, defeating Indiana State in the 2022-23 season.
