First Five
- Kansas City Men's Basketball remains at home for its second game of Summit League play on Saturday afternoon, taking on Oral Roberts in a game moved to 5 p.m. due to weather. The Roos will look to move to 2-0 in Summit League play for the first time since returning to the league in 2020-21. The last time KC started conference play with two wins was in 2019-20 as members of the WAC.
- The Roos were dominant on the glass in their league-opening win over South Dakota on Thursday, winning the battle of the boards, 45-25. A plus-20 margin was KC's best against a DI team since Dec. 31, 2023 and the Roos scored 13 second chance points on 17 offensive boards.
- Kansas City's defense has played a large role in its season-best five-game winning streak. Across the past five games, the Roos are holding teams to 41.6% shooting from the field and just 25.7% shooting from three-point range.
- Jamar Brown posted his second double-double of the season against the Coyotes, going for a game-high 19 points and 11 rebounds. He now has nine double-doubles on his Kansas City career with four coming against Summit League opponents. In conference games where he posts a double-double, KC is 4-0.
- South Dakota entered Thursday's game averaging 86.6 points per game. KC held them to a season-low 54 and allowed just 14 field goals, the least by a DI opponent since holding the Yotes to 13 field goals in a Dec. 19, 2022 win.
Scouting Oral Roberts
- Oral Roberts will be opening its Summit League slate on Saturday, its first game since a Dec. 30 win over Texas A&M - Texarkana. The Golden Eagles are 4-9 on the year and hold a 1-9 record against Division One opponents.
- ORU is led by Summit League Preseason Player of the Year Issac McBride. He ranks sixth in the Summit with a 16.2 points per game average and leads the league with an average of 34.0 minutes per game.
- The Golden Eagles average 10.0 threes per game and shoot 37.8% from deep, both ranking second in the Summit.
- ORU and Kansas City have played 42 times in the past, the third-most games before KC and any opponent. The Golden Eagles lead the all-time series, 29-13, but KC is on a two-game winning streak.
- The Roos won a 77-60 decision at home and a 71-54 game on the road against ORU last season.
