First Five
First Five
- Kansas City Men's Basketball is back to action after a week-long break in play, looking to bounce back from last week's loss at Omaha. In the Head Coach Marvin Menzies era, the Roos hold a 4-3 record when they have a break of at least six days in between games. That includes a 1-0 record this season, defeating South Dakota after an 11-day break.
- Jayson Petty made it four-straight games of double-digit scoring against Omaha, going for 12 points with 10-of-13 free throw shooting, marking career-highs in both makes and attempts. Petty has six games this season with at least nine free throw attempts, making him one of just 21 players in the nation to have at least six games of nine-plus attempts.
- As a team, the Roos shot 4-of-21 from beyond the arc against Omaha, connecting at a 19.1% rate. Kansas City moved to 0-5 this season and 9-29 under Coach Menzies when shooting below 30% from three-point range.
- KC has taken advantage of its trips to the charity strip this season, shooting a league-leading 76.4% from the line. The Roos have also done well at getting to the free throw line, attempting 20.9 shots per game, second in the Summit and 102nd in the NCAA.
- Jamar Brown's all-around importance to the Roos cannot be understated. He is one of just 33 players in the NCAA this season averaging over 16 points, seven rebounds, one assist and one steal per game.
Scouting NDSU
- After losing its first two games of Summit League play, North Dakota State has responded with back-to-back wins over Oral Roberts and Denver, moving to 13-6 overall.
- The Bison are led offensively by Jacksen Moni, who paces the Summit League with averages of 19.6 points and 4.1 assists per game.
- NDSU is one of the top offensive teams in the league, ranking first in assist-to-turnover, assists per game, three point percentage, threes per game and turnovers per game.
- The Bison and the Roos have met 24 times in the past, making them KC's 10th-most played opponent. NDSU holds a 16-8 all-time advantage, including a 7-3 mark in Fargo.
- North Dakota State swept the season series last year, winning both games in overtime. Jamar Brown averaged 19.5 points on 60% field goal shooting across the two games.
