FIRST FIVE
FIRST FIVE
- Kansas City Men's Basketball is back home on Wednesday evening to kick of the second year of the Big Sky-Summit Challenge, taking on Idaho. In last year's inaugural challenge, the Roos went 1-1 with a home win over Portland State and a road loss to Sacramento State.
- The Roos are a perfect 3-0 inside the Swinney Center this season with wins over Hannibal-LaGrange, Kansas Christian and Calvary. Kansas City started 5-0 at home last year, and a win on Wednesday would mark the first time the Roos won their first four home games in back-to-back years since 2015-16 and 2016-17.
- Kansas City will be retiring Tony Dumas' #23 jersey at halftime on Wednesday, marking the first jersey retirement since Michael Watson in 2019. Dumas was the first player to be selected to the NBA in program history and still holds program records for single-season scoring average and career 20-point games.
- In addition, the Roos will be honoring Coach Lee Hunt throughout the game. Hunt was the head men's basketball coach and athletic director as KC transitioned to the Division One level and still holds the program record with 113 head coaching wins.
- Anderson Kopp was on fire in the Roos' most recent game against SEMO, going for a career-high 27 points. He went 10-of-10 from the free throw line, becoming the first Roo since Nov. 29, 2022 to shoot perfect from the line with at least 10 attempts.
SCOUTING IDAHO
- Idaho enters Wednesday's match up in its second year under Head Coach Alex Pribble after a 11-21 year last season.
- The Vandals are 3-5 so far this season including a recent win over UC Riverside.
- Idaho has three players averaging double-digit scoring, led by Kristian Gonzalez with an 11.9 points per game average. Julius Mims averages 11.1 points per game on 56.3% shooting.
- These teams have met three times before when they overlapped as members of the Western Athletic Conference in 2013-14. Idaho owns a 2-1 advantage.
- The most recent meeting came in the 2014 WAC Quarterfinals, a 73-70 win for the Vandals.
