Kansas City Assistant Athletic Director for Strategic Communications Jerod Fox has been named to the College Sport Communicators (CSC) 30 Under 30 Class of 2024. The honor, now in its third year, was created to recognize outstanding young professionals in strategic, creative and digital athletics communications roles for their professional success, impact on their athletics department/conference and service to CSC.
Â
"lt is a blessing and an honor to be recognized alongside my colleagues that make up some of the best in the College Sport Communicators business," Fox said. "I've been fortunate to have teachers, mentors and friends who have poured into me and helped my development from Newton, to Hastings and now in Kansas City. I wouldn't be here without them. Most of all, this award is a reflection of the Kansas City Roos. Our coaches, student-athletes, administration and the rest of my communications crew are a joy to work with and are the reason that this honor is possible."
Â
Fox recently completed his third year as the full-time lead of the Strategic Communications unit and was elevated to an Assistant Athletic Director in October of 2023. He began as a graduate assistant with the Roos in 2019 and helped guide the department through the turbulent times of the pandemic year.
Â
Throughout his tenure with the Roos, Fox has served as the primary media contact for four NCAA Tournament-qualifying teams. He has also nominated and promoted seven conference Players of the Year and eight conference Coaches of the Year. Under his direction, the Roos have seen an increase in digital and social media coverage, including a redesign of the kcroos.com website.
Â
"Jerod has undoubtedly elevated our strategic communications operations and structure," said Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Dr. Brandon Martin. "His commitment to excellence is owed to his communications acumen and his commitment toward highlighting the significant accomplishments of our exceptional scholar-athletes, coaches, and the vibrant campus community. I'm proud of and excited for him to receive this well-deserved recognition."
Fox is a native of Newtown, Kan. And graduate of Hastings College where he competed on the tennis team. Fox began his path in athletic communications as a member of Hastings College Media during his undergraduate career where he spent time as the Social Media Director and was a familiar voice on the Broncos' basketball, volleyball, football and soccer broadcasts. He then earned his master's in Higher Education Administration from UMKC.
Â
He is an active member of the Collegiate Sports Communicators community, serving on the Young Professionals committee and partaking in the mentor/mentee program. Additionally, he was a panelist at the 2024 national convention for the "Career Building & Finding Your Confidence" open forum and was featured in the September 2023 edition of CSC360.
Â
"The remarkable individuals recognized in the CSC Under 30 Class of 2024 represent a diverse and talented group of young professionals working in sports communications today," 2024-25 CSC President Kevin Trainor said. "This distinguished list of honorees features outstanding sports communicators from throughout our membership. Their innovative approach to blending traditional communications methods with content creation, social media and other emerging technologies will allow us to effectively connect with our audiences while also helping to shape the future of our organization and our profession. Congratulations to all of those included in this year's class!"
Of a record 176 nominations submitted, this year's class includes 10 members from different levels of NCAA Division I, six Division II members, 10 Division III members, two NAIA members, one member from a Canadian institution, and one two-year college member. The average age is 27.1 years old.
Honorees in the 2024 class were chosen by a voting group composed of the Executive Board of Directors, the Advisory Council, CSC staff, leaders from all CSC committees and selected past winners.
