Ugass Scores 10, Roos Fall to Utah Valley

Tamia Ugass led the team in both points and rebounds
OREM, Utah — Kansas City Women's Basketball (1-1) struggled to settle in against Utah Valley (1-0) falling, 72-48 in its second road game. The Roos and the Wolverines battled it out in the first quarter with both sides trying to get hot from the field. The Blue and Gold fired off 13 shots and closed the first quarter just two points behind Utah Valley, but their shooting strife carried into the second quarter. Even with an explosive third quarter, strong defense on the Utah Valley side kept a Kansas City comeback out of the question. Tamia Ugass led the Roos with 10 points and seven rebounds.

She lost two Utah Valley defenders and put up the left-handed scooping layup to bring Kansas City within two of the Wolverines. On the next possession, Lisa Thomas knocked down back-to-back free throws to tie the game.
2Q — 4:31 / 26-14| The Roos fired off a shot that bounced off the rim. A well-positioned Ugass grabbed the rebound and went up for the put-back, effectively ending a nearly five-minute scoring drought for KC.
2Q — 2:23 / 30-19| Contreras bounced the ball to Elauni Bennett in the lane. El. Bennett then passed the ball towards an open Emani Bennett who fired off the jumper just inside the arc.
3Q — 2:50 / 51-37| Kansas City executed a quick-moving play, with Thomas swiftly bringing the ball down the court. Thomas connected with El. Bennett under the net with a bounce pass. El. Bennett then knocked down the shot without hesitation.

- Ugass's 10 points tonight and 11 points in Monday's game mark her first back-to-back double-digit performance since Jan. 11, 2024, until Jan. 20, 2024, when she scored ten or more points in three consecutive games.
- The Kansas City bench accounted for 71 minutes of playing time. Zaire Harrell led the bench with five points and five rebounds. She went two-for-two from the field and knocked down an additional basket from the charity stripe.
- Last season, Ugass averaged 0.5 blocks per game earning a season-high two blocks on three occasions. Her one block in tonight's game puts her on track to match last season in blocks per game.
