- Kansas City Men's Basketball returns to action with its first road trip of the season, traveling to Ames, Iowa for a meeting with Iowa State, the fifth-ranked team in the nation. The Roos will take the floor at Hilton looking for their first win in a road-opener since 2014, a 69-61 win over Missouri on Nov. 14.
- A chance to make history presents itself to the Roos, as the program has never defeated a top-25 ranked team. All-time, Kansas City holds a 0-27 record against AP ranked teams, including a 0-9 record against top-five teams. The last meeting with a ranked opponent came on Dec. 5 of last season, when the Roos dropped an 88-69 decision to No. 2 Kansas.
- The Roos took care of business against a pair of non-Division One opponents to begin the year and find themselves ranked among the top teams in the nation in several statistical categories. The Roos currently lead the Summit and rank top-five in the NCAA in free throw makes per game (3rd, 27.0), rebound margin (2nd, 29.0), offensive rebounds per game (4th, 20.5) and scoring margin (3rd, 55.5).
- Preseason Summit League First Teamer Jamar Brown is averaging a double-double through the first two games with 17.5 points and 10.0 rebounds. His 4.0 steals per game and 6.0 offensive rebounds per game both rank top-10 in the nation.
- Freshman Ring Nyeri impressed in his collegiate debut, going for 14 points and four rebounds in the win over Kansas Christian.
SCOUTING IOWA STATE
- The Cyclones opened the 2024-25 season with an 83-44 win over Mississippi Valley State on Nov. 4, winning their seventh-straight season opener.
- Last year, Iowa State claimed a Big 12 Tournament Title, making a run to the Sweet 16 after a first round victory over the Summit's South Dakota State.
- Keshon Gilbert led the Cyclones with 17 points in their win last Monday. The senior was last season's Big 12 Championship MVP and earned Preseason All-Big 12 Second Team honors heading into this year.
- The Roos and Cyclones have met four times in the past, with ISU winning all four. The last meeting came on Dec. 4, 2019, a 79-61 decision.
- Head Coaches Marvin Menzies and TJ Otzelberger have crossed paths in the past: Otzelberger replaced Menzies as head coach at UNLV in 2020.
