The Roos prepare for their first conference match of the 2023 season with a conference holding an 9-3 record after The KC Roos Klassic.
The Roos are gearing up for their first conference match of the 2023 season, facing a conference opponent with an impressive 9-3 record following The KC Roos Klassic. Their non-conference win percentage stands at a remarkable .750, marking their highest since 2014 when the Roos had a stellar 12-4 record in non-conference play before ultimately clinching the WAC regular season title.
Odyssey Warren showcased her exceptional skills during a recent match, recording an impressive 21 kills, a career-high for her. This outstanding performance has propelled her to the top of the season leader board for the Roos, with a total of 156 kills so far.
Warren and Kaia Dunford have been the driving forces behind the Roos' attack, both ranking among the top-100 in the NCAA for attacks per set. Warren stands at an impressive 20th in the nation with an average of 11.28, while Dunford holds a solid 78th position with an average of 10.12.
Collectively, the Kansas City team is averaging 2.5 blocks per set, a significant contrast to their opponents who manage just 1.3 blocks per set. This places the Roos on track to achieve the fourth-highest blocking average in program history, marking their best performance since 2014.
In their pursuit of victory, the Roos are looking to start their Summit League campaign on a winning note, aiming to secure their first Summit League opener win since 2021. Omaha Notes
Kansas City is determined to halt Omaha's two-game winning streak against them. Despite Omaha's challenging 1-9 season record, the Mavericks displayed their potential by sweeping Bradley to conclude their non-conference matches.
During the recent match, McCormick showcased her exceptional skills with an impressive 12 kills, bringing her career total to within seven kills of reaching the remarkable milestone of 700 kills.Â
Olivia Curry also had a standout performance, achieving her third double-double of the season even before the second set concluded, amassing 15 assists and 11 digs by the end of the day. Arnold delivered an outstanding performance against Bradley, setting a couple of career records with nine kills and boasting the highest hitting percentage of any Maverick this season at an impressive .643. Kansas City is eager to put an end to Omaha's two-game winning streak against them.Â
South Dakota State Notes
The Roos are determined to get back on the winning track as they face off against the Jackrabbits, who arrive in Kansas City with a season record of 6-4.
In their last non-conference match, the Jackrabbits faced Loyala-Marymount, with an .085 attack rate and 25 kills. They did, however, excel with six ace serves but also encountered six serving errors and six reception errors.
For the Jackrabbits, Sam Hastings played a pivotal role, recording 17 digs, five assists, and four ace serves. Despite their struggles, LMU had a strong offensive performance, hitting .337 with 43 total kills, led by Michelle Shaffer with eight kills at an impressive .429 clip.
Masa Scheierman led the Jackrabbit offense with eight kills, Sylvie Zgonc added seven, and Sydni Schetnan contributed four, with Zgonc impressing with consecutive aces in the opening set.Â
