Tennis Splits Matches to Open Spring Season

Kansas City fell to Drake before blowing past Northern Iowa
WATERLOO, Iowa - Kansas City Tennis (1-1) opened up its spring season by splitting a pair of matches in Iowa, falling at Drake, 6-1 on Thursday, before running away with a 5-2 win against Northern Iowa this afternoon. Freshman Catherine Chrobak proved to be a bright spot for the Roos, winning both of her singles matches from the No. 3 spot.
In Thursday's match against the Bulldogs, Drake set the tone early by taking the doubles point. However, Joanna Cardona and Kate Miley fought for a tiebreaker win, 7-6 (11-9). In singles, Chrobak was the only Roo to come away with a win, taking a three-set thriller, 6-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6).
On Friday, it looked as if Northern Iowa might have the advantage. The Panthers took the doubles point in convincing fashion and earned the first singles victory of the day at the No. 2 spot. It was Chrobak that got the Roos on the board with a 6-2, 7-6 win at No. 3, and Kansas City took the next five points after that as well.
