The Roos were unable to string hits together, scoring zero runs for the first time this year
MIAMI, Fla. - Runs were hard to come by for Kansas City Softball (1-4) in the finale of the Felsberg Invitational, falling to Georgia State (1-4), 5-0. The Roos finished with the same amount of hits as the Panthers, but were unable to bring any runs across home plate. Jenna Milan went the distance for the Roos from the pitching circle, holding GSU to four hits and one run through five innings before giving up four runs in the sixth.
KEY MOMENTS
- Bottom 1 / 0-1 | Georgia State struck first by scoring its first batter of the morning. The Roos tried to respond when Sydney Nichols singled and Ally Vonfeldt walked, but KC was unable to get a run across.
- Bottom 3 / 0-1 | Milan got out of the top of the inning in 1-2-3 fashion, and the Roos looked to get on the board. Lexy Smith singled with two outs and advanced to third on errors by the Panthers' fielders, but a groundout ended the inning.
- Top 5 / 0-1 | For the second time in three innings, Milan went three-up, three-down with the GSU batters, picking up her first strikeout of the day to end the inning.
- Bottom 5 / 0-1 | Starting at the top of the lineup, Kiki McCrea walked to start the bottom half of the inning, but was thrown out on a single by Nichols. Smith singled and advanced Nichols to second, and after fly-out by Vonfeldt, Katie Noble walked to load the bases with two outs. However, the Roos would come out empty-handed on a fly ball by Marina Karnes and Georgia State would add four runs in the top of the sixth to seal the game.
STATS TO NOTE
- After going 1-of-2 from the plate today, Noble raised her team-leading batting average to .429.
- McCrea has shown poise at the plate through her first weekend as a Roos, drawing five walks on the young season, including one today.
- Milan went the complete game this morning, needing just 87 pitches to do so and limiting the Panthers to one extra-base hit.
- Batting from the No. 2 and 3 spots, Nichols and Smith went a combined 4-of-8 from the plate today. The rest of the Roos' lineup was a combined 3-of-18.
