Okpareke Claims Top Spot in National 60-Meter Rankings
AMES, Iowa. -Â Kansas City went on a trip to Iowa State and came back with a solid performance, breaking three school records and clinching victories in three events. True Freshman Kenechukwu Okpareke took center stage, dominating the day with a record-setting performance in the 60 meters. His freshman campaign began with a bang, breaking the 21-year-old program record with a swift time of 6.71. Undeterred, Okpareke continued his run in the finals, clocking in at 6.67 and surpassing Ronnie Williams' 2001 record of 6.70.
ÂIn the women's 300 meters, Micaela Martin secured second place while simultaneously breaking Sa'Kia Taylor's 2012 school record of 40.43. Meanwhile, Logan Pratt broke a school record in the 300m flat track with a time of 34.35. This significant achievement wiped Anthony Boyers' 2009 record of 25.21 off the books, securing Pratt a solid second place at the ISU Invite.
ÂMcKenzie Pearson kicked off her second meet of the season by securing second place in the long jump with a leap of 5.63m (18-05 ¾). This feat came just a week after her strong second-place finish in the triple jump at the season opener. Teammates Jaleesa McWashington (5.60m or 18-04 ½) and Paige Cordero 5.26m (17-03. ¼ ) claimed the third and fourth spots, contributing to the team's overall performance.
