ST. CHARLES, Mo. - The threes were falling for Kansas City Men's Basketball (4-6) at Robert F. Hyland Arena this evening, grabbing its first road win of the year at Lindenwood (3-6), 72-67. The Roos knocked home a season-high tying 14 three-pointers on the night, led by a 6-of-10 three-point performance from Cameron Faas.
The game was a back-and-forth affair for the most part, with neither team leading by more than eight points throughout the first 38 minutes of the contest. It wasn't until late in the second half that the Roos took over for good, using the help of four triples in the final eight minutes of the game.
Faas and Anderson Kopp led the Roos' scoring efforts with 18 points each, while Jamar Brown also eclipsed the double-digit mark with 11. Khristion Courseault had a standout game with nine points and seven assists, while Jeff Ngandu tallied eight points and three blocks.
KEY MOMENTS | HIGHLIGHTS
- 1H - 16:24 / 8-4 | The Lions scored the first four points of the night, but Kansas City replied by scoring eight-straight of its own. The run was capped by Kopp's first points of the night, coming on an assist from Courseault, his second in as many field goals.
- 1H - 7:46 / 16-21 | Lindenwood went on a 10-point run, going ahead by eight points, but Courseault pulled down a rebound on the miss by LU's Jerimiah Talton, pushing the pace up-court and finding Jamar Brown for a wide-open three on the left wing.
- 1H - 0:39 / 28-28 | The Roos trailed for 12 minutes late in the half, but were able to go into the break with the score even thanks a five-point run. Initially it was Tyler Andrews with a quick-fire three-pointer from the right wing, then Kopp got a bucket in the paint to knot the score.
- 2H - 19:48 / 31-28 | Faas stepped up immediately in the second half, taking a pass from Courseault and firing a shot through the nylon from deep. That set the tone for his five triples in the second half and gave the Roos the lead for the first time since the 12:47 mark of the first half.
- 2H - 7:32 / 55-52 | A solid series by the Roos allowed them to take the lead for good with just under eight minutes remaining in the game. First, Jayson Petty drove into the lane and dumped a pass off to Jeff Ngandu, who went up for a dunk and tied the game up. After a defensive board by Ngandu, Kansas City came the other way and found the hot hand. Faas used off-ball movement to get open and Kopp found him for the three.
- 2H - 1:50 / 68-58 | Kansas City iced the game with three pointers, knocking down three in a three-minute span to go on a 9-2 run. Faas hit one at the 4:21 mark, then Kopp found Courseault for a triple at the 2:30 mark and Faas capped it off with his sixth three of the day, effectively shutting the door on the Lions.
STATS TO NOTE
- The win gives Kansas City 450 total in program history. The Roos picked up their 400th win against Crowley's Ridge on Jan. 27, 2020, which was 1,412 days ago. That marks the third-quickest span between 50-win milestones in program history.
- Going 6-of-10 from long range tonight, Faas notched his seventh-straight multi-three game and his third game of the season with five-plus triples. He becomes the eighth Roo to log three games of five-plus threes since 2010. Most recently was RayQuawndis Mitchell, who hit the mark six times last season.
- Tonight's win was the second time this season that Kansas City has made 14 threes in a single game. According to Sports Reference, that ties the most games with 14-plus three-point makes in a single season since 2010. The Roos have reached that mark twice in the past 14 seasons, in 2016-17 and 2017-18.
- Courseault's seven assists came within one of his career-high and are the most by a Roo this season. Kansas City logged 15 assists as a team, maintaining the streak of at-least 10 assists in every game this year.
- Ngandu logged season-highs in points (8), rebounds (5) and blocks (3). His three blocks mark the most by a Kansas City player this season.
