KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City Athletics' Deputy Director of Athletics/Senior Woman Administrator, Ursula Gurney, has been selected for the 2022-23 NCAA Pathway Program, it was announced this week. According to the NCAA website, the Pathway Program is a "yearlong initiative designed to prepare senior-level athletics administrators for the next career step."
"As my leadership chapter with N4A closes, I am excited for the next phase in my leadership journey with the NCAA Pathway Program," Gurney said. "I am excited for the opportunity to grow, network and learn. I am thankful to Dr. Martin for encouraging and supporting this opportunity."
Gurney, who has been with Kansas City Athletics since 2008, has served on the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A) Board of Directors for a decade, and recently served as the N4A President.
Gurney is one of just 22 administrators from all levels of NCAA athletics selected for the Pathway Program. Throughout the year, the group will have regularly scheduled meetings, enhancing skills in strategic planning, fundraising, equity and inclusion and leadership, among other items.
The program, which was created in 1997, has seen nearly 30% of its graduates move on to become athletic directors or conference commissioners. More than 70% of the graduates have since seen some level of promotion in their field.
The program will begin with a week-long education session this month and will conclude in the summer of 2023.
