Kansas City gutted out the doubles point, but were outlasted in singles
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - In a match that was moved indoors due to inclement weather, Kansas City dropped a gut-wrenching battle against Saint Louis this afternoon. The Roos won the doubles point for the first time in six matches, but were unable to earn the decision in singles.
KC began things on a good note with doubles play. Despite a loss at the No. 1 spot, Laura Munoz-Baroja and Anastassiya Timofeyeva were able to earn a decisive victory at No. 2. It then came down to Michela Xibilia and Riddhi Sharma at No. 3. The pair were taken to a tiebreaker, but earned a 7-6 (7-5) decision to win the point.
Saint Louis regained command early in singles play with wins at the No. 3 and 4 spots. However, Michela Xibilia earned a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles, tying things back up at 2-2. The Roos momentum was stopped when the Billikens won at No. 6 and gutted out a three-set victory at the No. 1 spot to earn the victory.
The Roos travel to Omaha for a match against Creighton tomorrow at 12:30 p.m.
