Kansas City Softball Sweeps Arkansas-Pine Bluff this Weekend

Hoveland throws shutout with eight strikeouts
CONWAY, Ark. – Kansas City Softball (3-10) fell to St. Louis (3-6) in the first game of the day, 0-4, then completed the sweep of Arkansas- Pine Bluff (1-8) with a 6-0 victory. Mia Hoveland earned her first win of the season with a complete-game shutout, while Kloe Hilbrenner and Delainey Fenoglio combined for five of the Roos' runs batted in, with a pair of homeruns in the victory.

Kansas City will be back in Arkansas later this week at the Razorback Invitational where they will play two games each against Missouri State, No. 10 Arkansas and Kennesaw State. The tournament will begin with the Roos facing Missouri State on Friday at 1 p.m.
GAME 1 | St. Louis-4 v KC-0 | INNING-BY-INNING
- 1 / 1-0 | St. Louis rallied with two outs to push across a run. Kansas City followed with a pair of doubles by Hilbrenner and Ally Vonfeldt but were shut down by a double play.
- 2 / 2-0 | SLU led off the second with a solo homerun to push their lead to two. Sydney Reid hit another double, followed by a Faith Denning single, but KC was stopped on the squeeze play.
- 3 / 2-0 | Camryn Stickel came on in relief and got out of a jam on defense. On offense, Kansas City tried to use a pair of hits by Alexis D'Ambrosio and Vonfeldt to get on the board but came out scoreless.
- 4 / 4-0 | The Billikens doubled their lead in the fourth.
- 5 / 4-0 | Neither team scored in the fifth inning.
- 6 / 4-0 | A pitching dual settled in the final three innings.
- 7 / 4-0 | KC couldn't out together a seventh inning a rally.
- Vonfeldt and Reid both had a multi-hit game with a double each.
- Casey Stout and Stickel each threw two strikeouts and allowed two runs.
- 1 / 3-0 | Hilbrenner came in on D'Ambrosio's double and then Delainey Feonglio blasted one over the fence to give KC a big first inning lead.
- 2 / 3-0 | A triple by Hilbrenner threatened another run but KC could not bring her home.
- 3 / 3-0 | Hoveland tallied her fifth strikeout of the game.
- 4 / 5-0 | Ashley Thorne led off the inning with a double and Hilbrenner drove one over the fence for her second homerun of the season.
- 5 / 5-0 | Thorne started a two-out rally with a walk and steal but was left on second base before the Roos could push another one across.
- 6 / 6-0 | Vonfeldt tripled to centerfield and came home on Fenoglio's RBI to add extra insurance for the Roos.
- 7 / 6-0 | Hoveland completed the shutout in the final frame with two more strikeouts.
- Hoveland earned her first complete-game shutout since the Roos defeated Western Illinois on April 25, 2021, 3-0. She finished with a season-high eight strikeouts, while only allowing four hits.
- Hilbrenner hit a triple and a homerun in the victory, earning 11 total bases, a record-tying performance for total bases in a single-game in program history.
- Fenoglio went 3-for-4 at the plate, including her 10th career homerun. She brought in three of the Roos' six total runs.
