Mannah Mensah dropped 13 points in her debut game as a Roo
VERMILLION, S.D. - Kansas City Women's Basketball (4-8, 0-1 Summit) had trouble stopping South Dakota (5-7, 1-0 Summit) this evening, falling 82-59. The Coyotes shot the ball at a 63% clip in the first half, holding Kansas City to 18.9% shooting.
Rain Green gave Kansas City a spark in her return from injury, scoring a team-high 21 points in her first game since Nov. 18. Manna Mensah also impressed in her first game as a Roo, scoring 13 points and knocking down 3-of-5 three-pointers.
KEY MOMENTS
- 1Q - 8:57 / 4-2 | Mensah and Green scored the Roos first two buckets of the day for an early lead, but the Coyotes responded with an 11-point run that gave them the lead for good.
- 2Q - 8:29 / 14-27 | Mensah knocked down a pair of three-pointers to begin the second quarter as the Roos cut into the South Dakota lead.
- 2Q - 3:35 / 19-40 | Green hit a fast-break jumper to end a 13-1 South Dakota run, but the Coyotes would end the half on another seven-point run and take a 28-point lead into the half.
- 3Q - 0:10 / 39-68 | Dani Winslow found Green in the fast break for her ninth-and-tenth points of the third quarter.
- 4Q - 1:18 / 57-82 | Ava Murphy got into the score sheet with a three-pointer late int he game.
STATS TO NOTE
- Machia Mullens played 24 minutes on the night, her third time this season reaching the 20-minute mark. She scored four points and pulled down a career-high seven rebounds.
- Kansas City committed just 10 turnovers on the night, forcing South Dakota into 16 give aways.
- After shooting below 20% from the field in the first half, the Roos turned it around in the second half, knocking down 12-of-26 shots for a 46.2% clip.
