
Allen Drops 28 in Loss to Green Bay

The Roos attempted 24 more shots than the Phoenix but could not come away with the win
GREEN BAY, Wis. - Shemarri Allen did all he could to keep Kansas City Men's Basketball (4-9) in tonight's matchup with Green Bay (2-8), but in the end it was not enough as the Roos fell, 70-64. Allen scored a career-high 28 points on the game, adding four rebounds, four steals and three assists.
The Roos took a slight lead into the halftime break, but Green Bay quickly took a lead that they would not relinquish in the second half. The Phoenix shot at a 56.5% clip in the second frame and went 15-of-15 from the free throw line, keeping the Roos at arms length late.
Kansas City was dominant on the glass, out-rebounding the Phoenix by eight. The Roos pulled down 19 offensive boards, scoring 19 second chance points. RayQuawndis Mitchell was the only Roo besides Allen to reach double-digits, scoring 16 points on 6-of-20 shooting.
KEY MOMENTS
- 1H - 18:39 / 4-0 | The Roos scored on two of their first three possessions on jumpers by Allen and Mitchell, but then went scoreless for the next six-plus minutes as the Phoenix built a three-point lead.
- 1H - 8:15 / 19-10 | After falling behind by three, the Roos put together a 15-3 run over the span of four minutes to claim a nine-point lead. A fast break dunk by Allen David Mukeba Jr. gave the Roos a spark and back-to-back threes by Tyler Andrews and Babacar Diallo capped the run.
- 1H - 0:05 / 30-27 | Green Bay stormed back to take a brief lead, but the Roos ended the half on a four-point run, capped by a steal by Jeff Ngandu underneath the basket, going right back up for a slam dunk.

- 2H - 13:30 / 40-42 | The Phoenix jumped out to a lead early in the second half, Mitchell knocked down a tough baseline floater to bring the Roos back within a pair. Green Bay would score the next five-straight to generate a seven-point lead.
- 2H - 5:43 / 48-51 | Allen took a pass from Diallo and hit a floater in the lane to bring the Roos within three, as close as they would get for the rest of the game. Green Bay responded with a 7-2 run to secure the lead.
- 2H - 1:27 / 53-58 | A three-pointer by Allen would give Kansas City some late life, and the Roos did not go down quietly, but the Phoenix hit all 10 of their free throws in the game's final minute to take the win.
STATS TO NOTE
- Allen's career-high 28 marks the fourth time this season he's surpassed the 20-point mark and the sixth time this year he's set a career scoring mark. His 21 field goal attempts were also a career-high.
- The Roos attempted 24 more shots than the Phoenix, taking 64 attempts from the field. However, Green Bay shot at a 52.5% clip, while the Roos converted on just 35.9% of their shots.
- Thirty free throws conceded is the most by Kansas City since Oral Roberts took 42 charity attempts in a Feb. 12 loss last season.
- Diallo continued his trend of increased playing time from recent games, playing 32 minutes and pulling down a team-high eight rebounds.
