
Roos Fall in Overtime Battle with Arkansas State

E'Lease Stafford scored 24 points for KC, including a pair of free throws to force overtime
STATE UNIVERSITY, Ark. - A pair of E'Lease Stafford free throws with 13 seconds left in regulation helped Kansas City Women's Basketball force overtime against Arkansas State this afternoon, but the Roos could not pull out the win, falling in a 79-68 decision. Stafford led Kansas City, scoring 24 points and knocking down all four of KC's three-pointers on the game, going for her second 20-point game of the season.
Arkansas State used a run late in regulation to take the lead before Stafford's game-tying free throws. The Red Wolves had a pair of free throws on the other end to ice the game in regulation, but missed both, resulting in an extra five minutes of play. However, Arkansas State held KC scoreless in the extra period to take the victory going away.
Sanaa' St. Andre provided a second scoring option for the Roos, scoring 23 points on 10-of-25 shooting. She also facilitated the offense, dishing out a career-high eight assists in 36 minutes of play. However, she fouled out with less than a minute remaining in regulation, leaving the Roos short-handed in the overtime period.

- 1Q - 3:53 / 10-11 | After Arkansas State opened the game up on an 11-3 run, a pair of St. Andre buckets followed by a Stafford three gave Kansas City a seven-point run and closed the gap to one point.

- 3Q - 3:37 / 49-48 | Arkansas State opened its lead up to as many as seven to begin the third quarter, but Kansas City chipped away, reclaiming the lead with a Jocelyn Ewell layup.
- 3Q - 0:28 / 57-52 | Ugass pulled down an offensive board and converted on the second chance, and the Roos took a five-point lead into the final quarter of regulation.
- 4Q - 5:35 / 64-57 | Stafford hit her fourth three-pointer of the game, giving Kansas City its largest lead of the contest. However, Arkansas State would go on an 11-2 run over the next five minutes to reclaim the lead.
- 4Q - 0:13 / 68-68 | With the Roos trailing by a pair in the closing moments of the fourth, Stafford drew a foul and calmly hit both free throws. The Red Wolves had a chance at the line on the ensuing possession, but missed both chances, forcing overtime. Arkansas State would use an 11-0 run that spanned the entire overtime period to claim the win.
STATS TO NOTE
- Stafford's 24-point performance is her second 20-plus point game of the year and the fifth of her collegiate career. She has also played full-time in each of the Roos' past two contests.
- With her 23-point showing, St. Andre has reached double-digits in five-of-six games this year and has gone for 20-plus three times.
- Dani Winslow finished with eight points and 16 rebounds, her fifth-straight game with 10-plus boards.
- Ewell had a full stat line, going for nine points, nine rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks, while playing the full 45 minutes.
- The Roos pulled down 16 offensive rebounds on the day, converting them into 15 second-chance points.
