Caijah Anderson netted her first goal of the season to lift Kansas City to victory
VERMILLION, S.D. - A determined Kansas City Women's Soccer squad knocked off South Dakota, 1-0, for it's first Summit League victory this season. Caijah Anderson was the hero, scoring the game-winner in the 79th minute, while Mackenzie Caldwell locked the Coyotes out of goal.
KEY MOMENTS
- 15' / 0-0 | Kansas City built possession towards the Coyotes' goal as Anderson cut up the middle of the field and played a ball to Sophia Smith on the right side. The ball found its way back to Anderson outside of the box, who placed KC's first shot of the day on target.
- 18' / 0-0 | The Coyotes stole the ball in their own attacking third and played a dangerous ball forward, but Caldwell reached up and to her right, picking the ball out of the air for her first save of the day.
- 38' / 0-0 | The Roos looked to take advantage of their first corner kick of the day as Anderson looped a ball into the box. It was headed to the foot of Holland Hawkins, who settled the ball and fired a shot to the left side of the goal. USD's keeper blocked the ball back and Morgan McLaughlin let loose on another shot that ricocheted off a Coyote defender.
- 42' / 0-0 | Caldwell was called on again as a cross was met by a Coyote striker in the middle of the box. A shot on goal was sent to the lower right corner, but Caldwell's diving effort kept the ball out of the net.
- 46' / 0-0 | Kansas City took advantage of playing with the wind right away, as Sophia Limongi stepped up and sent a ball towards the box from near midfield. The ball made its way all the way to the goal and was punched out by the Coyotes' keeper and KC earned two-straight corners to begin the half.
- 60' / 0-0 | Limongi set up for a free kick from the left side of the field, about 25 yards away from goal. She went seeking the net, placing a shot that was caught by USD's goalie.
- 79' / 1-0 | An injury stoppage gave KC a dropped ball by the referee in a dangerous position. The ball was played into the box and found the foot of Anderson, who sent a shot through a crowd and into the back of the net to give the Roos an advantage.

- 90' / 1-0 | South Dakota brought all 11 forward, trying to equalize on a free kick with less than a minute remaining. The Coyotes took a shot from way outside the box, which Caldwell calmly brought down, securing the victory for KC.
