Melanie Brecka and De'Janae Arnold led the way for the Roos with 11 kills each

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Despite pushing Denver to the edge in the first two sets, Kansas City Volleyball could not overcome the Pioneers this evening, falling 3-0 (26-24, 25-22, 25-18). Melanie Brecka and De'Janae Arnold paced the Roos, throwing down 11 kills each.

KEY MOMENTS

S1 | Bree Thompson sent a kill cross-court, keeping the Roos within striking distance.
S1 | Brecka and Carly Gillen teamed up for the Roos' first block of the night, denying a Denver attack and bringing KC within four, 12-8.
S1 | Odyssey Warren finished off an overpass to cap a 6-1 Kansas City run and put the Roos in front, 19-18.
S1 | An excellent hustle play by Maddie Renn kept the point alive and was capped by a Brecka kill to give KC a 22-20 lead, but the Pioneers won the first set in extra play.
S2 | Arnold came around on a slide and split the Denver block to tie the second set up early, 5-5.
S2 | Gillen and Brecka came together for a block once again, giving the Roos a 10-8 edge.
S2 | Warren sent an attack tooling off the block, putting KC in front, 19-18. The Pioneers ended the set on a 7-3 run to take a two-set lead.
S3 | After Denver jumped out to a 9-3 lead early in the third, a kill by Brecka brought the Roos back within five.
S3 | A kill by Warren gave the Roos life, cutting the Denver lead to 13-9.
S3 | Raina Smith sent across her second kill of the night to give the Roos life late, but Denver secured the victory.

STATS TO NOTE

Renn was the lone Roo to finish with double-digit digs, notching 11.
Arnold was precise in her attack, throwing down 11 kills and just one error on 22 attacks for a .455 hitting percentage.
Alli Schomers finished with 31 kills, her 14th match in a row with over 30.
