LAWRENCE, Kan. - In its lone exhibition of the year, Kansas City women's soccer pushed the University of Kansas to the edge, falling 2-1. The Roos were aided by a 46th minute goal by freshman Lily Stedman in the loss.
KEY MOMENTS
- 4' - The Jayhawks set the tone early in the game, scoring on the first shot of the match. KU's Moira Kelly was able to sneak a shot past keeper Mackenzie Caldwell following a Jayhawk corner.
- 12' - On what looked like an open opportunity in the box for Kansas, Sam Marek swooped in from the back side to make a stop, clear the ball and keep the deficit at one goal.
- 14' - Caldwell made her first save of the game in the 14th minute, blocking away a Kansas shot on the left side of the net.
- 17' - The Jayhawks got on the board again in the 17th minute, sneaking a shot into the side of the net despite a diving attempt from Caldwell.
- 24' - Former Roo Rylan Childers had a good chance at the goal, but Caldwell was there to make a diving save to force the ball out of bounds.
- 41' - Morgan McLauglin served a cross into the box on the Roos' first real attacking chance of the game, but the Jayhawks' keeper was there to intercept the ball.
- 46' - After the break, the Roos immediately responded. Freshman Meghan White took the ball up the right sideline, cutting in before serving a perfectly placed ball to the foot of Stedman. Stedman took advantage on the Roos' first shot of the game, piercing the back of the net and bringing the Roos within one.
- 67' - With Kansas threatening in the box, Sophia Limongi stepped in to absorb a shot, clear the ball and thwart the opportunity.
- 75' - In her first Roo action, Lily Hollis swooped in for a bone-crunching tackle to change possession and give Kansas City a chance to counter.
- 83' - Caldwell's biggest moment of the game came late, blocking away a point-blank shot from the Jayhawks' Brie Severns.
STATS TO NOTE

COACH SMITH QUOTED
- "The second half was really good. We had a lot of players go in the game tonight and really settle in. We had some good chances, we defended a lot better, and I'm really proud of our performance in the second half."
- "(The newcomers) have really been a pleasant surprise in the preseason and I think that there are a lot of them that can come in and immediately challenge for minutes. They showed that tonight, they came in and really changed the game. I'm pleased with the outlook of our season and what it brings for the competitiveness of our training environment. We're only going to be that much better because of what they're going to bring every day."
