
Martin Appointed to NCAA Division I Council

Director of Athletics Dr. Brandon Martin is One of 40 Council Members
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has appointed Kansas City Athletics' Vice Chancellor/Director of Athletics Dr. Brandon E. Martin to the Division I Council. Martin's four-year appointment will begin July 1, 2021.
Comprised of 40 members, including a representative from each of the 32 Division I conferences, the NCAA Division I Council is a high-level group responsible for the day-to-day decision-making for NCAA Division I athletics. Athletics directors, athletics administrators, conference commissioners, Senior Woman Administrators, faculty athletics representatives, and student-athletes serve on the Council.
"I'm honored to serve on the esteemed NCAA Division I Council," Martin said. "I look forward to engaging in the critical process of helping to shape and support the NCAA's mission and direction at such a pivotal time for college athletics."
The Division I Council is responsible for the following standing committees, who report directly to the Council: Student-Athlete Experience Committee, Strategic Video and Planning Committee, Legislative Committee, Competition Oversight Committee, Men's Basketball Oversight Committee, Football Oversight Committee, Women's Basketball Oversight Committee and Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
"We look forward to Brandon's leadership on the Division I Council and representing our League. He will provide thoughtful perspectives and insights on the many issues the Council addresses," Tom Douple, Commissioner of the Summit League, said.
Martin has previously served on the NCAA Committee on Academics, presenter and mentor for the NCAA Pathways program, Chair of the Summit League Diversity and Inclusion Task Force and is the current Co-Chair of the Black AD Alliance.
