Grechkina, Vale and Xibilia pick up singles victories in the loss
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City Tennis showed flashes of brilliance, but ultimately fell short at the hands of Missouri State this afternoon, 4-3.
The Bears took the doubles point, but Yana Grechkina and Michela Xibilia earned a big win at the No. 1 spot to put the pressure on.
The Roos looked to be in control of the match early into singles play, picking up first set wins on five of the six courts. After needing a tiebreak in the first set, Grechkina made quick work of her opponent in the second set to draw the match even at 1-1. Xibilia and Thanushree Vale also took care of their competition in straight sets, while Grace Ball fell, making the score 3-2 in favor of the Roos.
After each winning their first sets, Eva Kresovic and Riddhi Sharma lost the second set, causing a pair of third sets to decide the match. Sharma fell behind a pair of breaks early, but battled back to tie the set at 4-4 before losing. Kresovic battled, but could not overcome her opponent and the Bears took the victory.
The Roos are back in action on Thurday, as they travel to Saint Louis University for a match with the Billikens at noon.
