St Louis, MO. - Kansas City Tennis earned the win with stellar performances this Thursday afternoon in a close battle versus Saint Louis University (1-3).
The start of doubles showcased the Roos determination to gain the early lead in challenging back and forth play against Saint Louis.Yana Grechkina and Michela Xibilia powered through and won 7-5. The Billikens would then battle and force a tiebreaker versus Roos Sharma and Timofeyeva. As the Billikens lead the tiebreaker 5-1, this Roos dynamic duo proved they had the will to win as Riddhi Sharma and Anastassiya Timofeyeva battled back in dramatic fashion to win the tiebreaker.
Heading into singles play the Roos dominated in their first set wins. Thanushree Vale and Michela Xibilia kept close in their second sets but were forced to battle in third set action. Both Vale (7-5, 4-6, 6-2) and Xibilia (6-0, 4-6, 6-2) conquered their third sets and helped the Roos continue the march towards victory. The final singles match would determine the win in Kansas City's favor thanks to freshman Anastassiya Timofeyeva. Taking an early lead in her first set 6-1, she continued her momentum and finished set two 6-3 receiving her first win and clinching the match for the Roos.
"The girls had a great match and battled hard!" commented Head Coach Kendell Hale.
The Roos will return home this Saturday, March 13th at 2pm for their match versus the University of South Dakota Coyotes at Woodside Club.
