KANSAS CITY, Mo. - After 110 grueling minutes, Kansas City kept Omaha off the scoreboard and came away with a 0-0 draw despite being out-shot 13-2Â on the game.
Rileigh Kuhns was credited for both of the Roos' shots, with one coming in the closing seconds of the second overtime period. Head Coach Jess Smith was complimentary of the team's performance, which included timely steals, and saves from keeper MacKenzie Caldwell.
"It's a great result for us. They're a really good team and I think the game as a whole was a great match, so I'm glad we got a result. I'm proud of the quality we played with," Smith said. "Overall, I'm pretty happy."
Caldwell was credited with four saves during the match. Two of those saves were when it counted most.
The first was with three minutes left in the first half where she made a diving stop to push the ball away from the Omaha player in front of the net. The second came in the first overtime period where she sent the ball up and into the netting above the goal.
However, one of the biggest defensive stops came from the heady play of Emma Wilson. With three minutes left in the second half, she stepped in to kick the ball away as it looked like Omaha would have a chance to put the ball in.
The teams played both overtime periods to a tie, with just one shot on goal recorded by the Mavs.
The Roos and Mavericks will play again on Sunday afternoon, with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
