
Roos Display Great Tenacity in Win over South Dakota

Roos Won with Persistence and Grit
Kansas City, MO. Kansas City Tennis starts conference with a win showcasing great toughness and persistence this Saturday afternoon in victory over South Dakota.
In doubles action the Roos displayed a competitive drive against the Coyotes. As the dynamic duo continued to power on the court together, Riddhi Sharma and Anastassiya Timofeyeva dominated their match with a straight 6-0 win. Then the Coyotes responded with their own run in the final doubles match as Yana Grechkina and Michela Xibilia fought point by point. Throughout the closely lost battle, Grechkina and Xibilia persevered and had great attacks at the front of net.
As singles play ensued, Kansas City emerged with new energy. Numerous Roos had tremendous rallies shifting the momentum of the match. Senior Grace Ball led well on both her serve and serve receive ending her match 2 sets to zero with scores 6-1 and 6-0. Then as Junior Riddhi Sharma was battling from a 5-1 deficit in her first set, Sharma fought back to outlast her opponent in a tiebreaker win 9-7. Sharma had the best comeback of the day with smart placements and true tenacity that pushed the Roos into great position. Senior Thanushree Vale then completed her match with notable consistency in powerful rallies 2 sets to none with scores 6-4 and 6-3.
"The middle of our lineup gets the credit for just toughness and grit!" said Head Coach Kendell Hale.
Tied at the start of the final singles match, Michela Xibilia would finish the fight for the Roos in a third set showdown. After a close first set win 6-4, Xibilia continued to push through the second but was forced to complete the third. Determined to finish strongly, Michela Xibilia battled to the very end and won her last set 6-2 helping the Roos earn the victory.
"I'm super proud of the fight today," said Head Coach Kendell Hale.
Kansas City Tennis will now travel to conference opponent Western Illinois next Saturday March 20th for their match at 11a.m.
