Roos Fall in Second Match of the Weekend Series Against the Coyotes

Kansas City (2-3, 2-2) took a tough loss in the second game of the weekend series versus South Dakota (1-1, 1-1). The light rain conditions sped the pace of the game up and provided the Coyotes with a momentum that couldn't be overturned by the Roos.
Â
The tone of the game was set right away when South Dakota scored in the first minute of play on a corner kick. The Coyotes added two more goals at 11' and 22' to give the Roos a hard hole to dig out of in the second half.
Â
"I was disappointed with how we came out," said head coach Jess Smith. "You go down 3-0 into halftime and that's a difficult mountain to climb. We were very flat, and our mentality was not where it needed to be."
Â
In the second half, the Roos came out firing to generate some offense and had several good chances, but they could not put one through. Kansas City was outshot 13-6 in the quick offensive game.
Â
"The loss is disappointing, but you have to find positives in it," said Smith. "In the second half, the way we attacked and created some chances, that was a positive for the day."
Â
South Dakota put two more goals in at 74' and right at the end to make the final score 5-0.
Â
Kansas City moves on to play Western Illinois on Friday and Sunday in Macomb, Ill. Game times will be 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
