Evan Gilyard II scored nine points in the final four minutes, but the Cougars outlasted the Roos
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - A late-game comeback attempt came up just short on the road as Kansas City Men's Basketball fell to SIUE this afternoon, 60-56. Evan Gilyard II led all scorers with 19 points, while Josiah Allick and Anderson Kopp scored 14 each.
KEY MOMENTS
- 1H / 7-10 | After a slow start saw the Roos fall behind by six early, Shemarri Allen pulled down a Gilyard miss and made the put-back through a crowd.
- 1H / 12-12 | Allen was there again for Kansas City, tying the game up on a driving layup on the assist by Allick.
- 1H / 19-18 | The Roos held the Cougars without a field goal for nearly four minutes, and a triple by Kopp put them ahead by a point for the Roos' only lead of the game.

- 2H / 26-31 | SIUE opened up a nine-point lead early in the second frame, but a triple by Allick cut the lead back down to five.
- 2H / 38-41 | A swing in momentum came after Allick got a second chance bucket, the Roos made a defensive stop and Gilyard knocked down a triple to cut the deficit down to three.
- 2H / 42-47 | SIUE built its lead back up to eight points, but Kopp knocked down a three-pointer coming out of the under-eight timeout to stop the Cougar run.
- 2H / 54-55 | Gilyard scored nine-straight points for Kansas City to trim the deficit down to a point with just over a minute remaining.

- 2H / 56-57 | The Cougars responded with a bucket, but Gilyard found Allick for a wide-open layup to cut the lead back down to one. However, SIUE would score the game's final three points to come away with the win.
STATS TO NOTE
- After shooting 28% in the first half, the Roos went 44% from the field in the second frame to stay in the game.
- KC held the Cougars to 3-of-22 three-point shooting, their third-straight game holding an opponent under 20% from long range.
- Allen was the Roos' lone reserve to score, logging six points in 19 minutes.
- Of Gilyard's 19 points, a career-high 12 came from the free throw line. He took 13 total attempts from the charity stripe, more-than doubling his season total.
- Kopp and Gilyard each dished out four assists to lead the Roos.
