Kansas City was held to 29 kills on the night
OMAHA, Neb. - Kansas City Volleyball could never find its stride against Omaha this evening, falling 3-0 (25-14, 29-27, 25-22). The Roos showed signs of life in the second set when Melanie Brecka threw across seven kills, but ultimately the Maverick attack outlasted KC.
KEY MOMENTS
- S1 | The Mavericks jumped out to a 9-1 lead in the first set before back-to-back errors gave the Roos two straight.
- S1 | Brecka picked up her first two kills in the set's final seven points to get herself going before the second set.
- S2 | Omaha got out to a 6-2 lead in the second set before kills by De'Janae Arnold and Brecka brought the Roos within two.
- S2 | The Mavericks led 21-16 when the Roos went on a 7-2 run, sparked by a Raina Smith kill and bookended by a Smith solo block to tie things up.
- S2 | Kansas City took its first lead of the day and forced set point on a Brecka kill that made it 25-24. The Roos had two more set point opportunities, but Omaha ended the set with three-straight to take a 2-0 lead.
- S3 | A kill out of the middle by Arnold drew the Roos within one early in the third set, 10-9.
- S3 | Brecka sent across a service ace that made the score 18-16 in favor of Omaha.
- S3 | A successful challenge by Coach Christi Posey gave Smith a kill that brought KC within a point of the Mavs, 23-22. Omaha would win the next two points to take the match.
STATS TO NOTE
- Brecka was the only Roo to finish with double-digit kills, throwing down 12 total on .258 hitting. Paired with three aces and two block assists, she finished with 16.0 total points. She also finished with 10 digs for her second-straight double-double.
- Three other Roos finished with double-digit digs, Leah Green (12), Kennedy Schritenthal (10) and Maddie Renn (10).
- After hitting just .061 in the first set, KC hit .212 and .214 in the second and third sets, respectively.
- The Roos finished with 29 kills on the night, just the second game this season where they failed to reach at least 30.
UP NEXT
The Roos return home for a pair of games against North Dakota on Thursday at 7 p.m. and North Dakota State on Saturday at 1 p.m. KCÂ defeated both teams 3-1 in their first matchups.
