Karloff's Game-Winner Lifts Roos over Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. - Kansas City Women's Soccer responded to a disappointing outing on Friday with a well-earned victory, outlasting Omaha 2-1 this afternoon. An early goal by Kassi Ginther and the game-winner by Sarah Karloff lifted the Roos to the win.
KEY MOMENTS
- 3' | A failed clearance by Omaha found the foot of Ginther, who took a light touch and sent a rocket into the back of the net from 27 yards out to give the Roos a 1-0 advantage early.
- 13' | A mishap in the box gave Omaha a good opportunity near goal, but Sophia Limongi came in to make the tackle and clear the ball away.
- 17' | The Mavs had a free kick from the edge of the attacking third, sending it into the box and heading it towards goal, but Mackenzie Caldwell was there for the save.
- 25' | Omaha had another dangerous opportunity in the box, sending a shot towards goal from the near left side, but Caldwell blocked it away.
- 36' | Caldwell was called on once again, making her sixth save of the day before the half.
- 42' | Omaha leveled the match after a giveaway in the box.
- 50' | Emma Wilson took a free kick from 25 yards away and sent a burner towards the goal, but the Mavs' keeper was there for the save.
- 59' | A corner kick by Omaha led to a couple of chances for the Mavs, but Emma Byrne rose above the crowd to head a clearance away.
- 67' | The Roos took advantage on their lone corner kick of the day, as Morgan McLaughlin sent the place kick to the head of Lillie Fields. Fields sent it parallel to Karloff, who lifted the ball above the outstretched arms of Omaha's keeper and into the back of the net to put KC in front, 2-1.
- 76' | Omaha threatened, but once again Caldwell made a simple play to keep the Mavs out of goal.
- 89' | The Mavericks had one final opportunity to equalize in the game's waning moments, but Caldwell jumped on an errant touch to clinch the victory.
STATS TO NOTE
- The Roos were out-shot, 20-to-7, but converted two of their three shots on goal to edge out the win.
- Mackenzie Caldwell finished with 11 saves on the day, increasing her national top-30 ranking in saves per game.
- Ginther's goal was her team-leading fifth of the season, the most in a single season in her career and most by a Roo since Rylan Childers in 2019.
- Karloff's goal was her first of the year and the fourth of her career.
- McLaughlin's assist was her team-leading third of the season, while Fields's was her second of the year.
