Emma Wilson's second-career goal gave the Roos all the edge they needed in the win
GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Kansas City Women's Soccer started Summit League play on the right foot this afternoon, taking a 1-0 victory over North Dakota. A 20th minute goal by Emma Wilson made all the difference, snapping a four-game scoreless skid.
KEY MOMENTS
- 4' | Anna Jennings opened with the first shot of the day, sending a ball right on goal that the UND keeper had no option but to bat it over the crossbar for a corner. On the ensuing set play, Sophia Limongi earned a shot of her own.
- 7' | Kassi Ginther looked to get into the action with a shot of her own, using a move to shake a defender but sending the chip shot wide of goal.
- 13' | Mackenzie Caldwell was called into action for the first time, but the UND shot was harmless.
- 20' | After Jennings attempted a through pass that was knocked back by the Fighting Hawks, Wilson poached the ball from outside of the box and sent a screamer that went off the UND keeper's hand and into the net to give the Roos a 1-0 lead.
- 33' | The Roos looked to add to their lead when Emily Jensen sent a ball to Rileigh Kuhns in the middle of the box, but Kuhns' shot in traffic missed the target.
- 39' | UND looked to equalize on a shot towards the net, but Caldwell was there to calmly scoop it up.
- 51' | North Dakota found its most dangerous opportunity of the day early in the second half, when a header was sent towards the left post. Caldwell laid out to make the stop and Wilson cleared the ball from trouble.
- 61' | Wilson looked for another opportunity to extend the Roos' lead, but her shot rolled off to the left of goal.
- 68' | Lily Stedman found a chance and took a pair of shots, the first was blocked and the second was stopped by the fingertips of the Fighting Hawks' keeper.
- 90' | The Roos parked the bus for the final 10 minutes of the game, and UND's final opportunity in the game's waning moments was sent high of the crossbar.
STATS TO NOTE
- Wilson led the Roos with five shots, including three on goal. Her first half goal was the second of her career, and the first game-winner.
- Caldwell faced just six shots for the second game in-a-row, making five saves. The clean sheet was the third of her career and the first in her last 14 starts.
