LINCOLN, Neb. – Kansas City track and field traveled to Lincoln, Neb. yesterday for the Nebraska Tune-Up, which marked their final tune-up before the Conference Indoor Championship next week. Several Roo athletes had the weekend off to rest for the conference meet, but a couple athletes had standout performances.

"I love what I saw from the athletes," said head coach Benaud Shirley. "We competed hard and it gave us a good indication of where we are heading into the conference meet next week."

Most impressively on the men's team, Gevon Foreman hit his personal record in the weight throw (17.08m). That mark ranks third best in the conference. He also placed 10^th in the shot put (13.52m). He will look to keep the momentum riding into the conference tournament.

"The pieces are coming together in preparation for conferences," said Foreman.

On the women's team, sophomore Shayla Davis performed well on Friday. She placed fifth in the 60m hurdle with her personal record time of 9.20 seconds. She also hit her PR time in the 60m run (8.24) for a 15^th place finish.

Fresh off winning the WAC Field Athlete of the Week, freshman Brooke Jenkins competed well in the long jump. She placed sixth with a jump of 5.57m.

Also in the field events for the women's team, junior Leyla Edwards placed eight in the triple jump (11.00m).

Senior sprinter Jaquez Perry is starting to hit his stride at the right time. After sitting out multiple events to start the year, he is getting back into the swing of things for the conference meet. He placed sixth in the 400m with a time of 49.96.

NEXT UP
The Roos will culminate the Indoor Season with the Western Athletic Conference Indoor Championship next weekend. Conference action begins Friday, Feb. 28 and will conclude on Saturday, Feb. 29th. Last season, the men's team placed fourth and the women's team placed fifth in Nampa, Idaho. This season's meet will also be held in Nampa, Idaho.
