KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kansas City Athletics introduced a new-look mascot with a different name today (Jan. 25) at the women's basketball game – "KC Roo." As Kansas City Athletics transformed their brand identity to the Kansas City Roos in June, 2019, the mascot is now changing from "Kasey the Kangaroo" to KC Roo.
The new-look mascot embodies the strong connection between the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Kansas City Athletics and the Kansas City community. His muscular frame fits the new logo's strength and determination while providing an inviting, fan- friendly appearance.
A look back at the rich history of the mascot provides insight into the importance of KC Roo today. Thanks to the legendary cartoonist Walt Disney and the student body desiring a mascot invoking school spirit and tradition, Kasey the Kangaroo was introduced in 1936. Since then, the mascot has undergone numerous changes, but one theme has remained consistent – the representation of pride for Kansas City's College Team and the University!
Changes to the new KC Roo mascot include a more modern look that helps cultivate a stronger connection to fans, alumni, staff and supporters within the amazing Kansas City community. KC Roo is ready to bring the highest level of excitement to sporting events and invites you to #ROOUP and show that pride.
KC Roo will be at all home games for the rest of the Kansas City Men's and Women's Basketball season. Fans can purchase tickets at KCRoos.com.
