KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Athletics and the KC Streetcar Authority have announced a new partnership that will connect Roos fans to college basketball games, bring Kansas City Athletics branding to streetcar stops and create opportunities to celebrate all season long.
As the Official Game Day Transit Partner for Kansas City men's and women's basketball, KC Streetcar is teaming up with Kansas City Athletics to promote the convenience of riding the streetcar to Roos basketball, whether they are playing downtown or on the UMKC campus.
The partnership comes as Kansas City men's basketball begins its first season under Head Coach Mark Turgeon and returns to downtown's historic Municipal Auditorium just steps away from the streetcar route.
It also supports a new chapter for women's basketball under Head Coach Candi Whitaker, with the UMKC streetcar stop just a short walk from the program's home at Swinney Center. Riders can hop the streetcar from any stop north of campus to watch the women play ball.
"Through this partnership, we're connecting our campus, downtown and the Kansas City community around Roos basketball," said Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Brandon Martin. "The streetcar gives fans a convenient, efficient and fare-free way to join us at Municipal Auditorium and Swinney Center, and we're excited to work with KC Streetcar to build awareness and create memorable experiences for both our men's and women's programs."
A centerpiece of the partnership will be Kansas City Roos branding at the Power & Light Northbound Streetcar stop at 14th and Main in the heart of downtown, ensuring riders know that Division I men's basketball is just a couple of blocks away at Municipal Auditorium.
It's never been easier to catch a game. Fans can begin their game day on campus. Parking is available in the 5050 Oak St. Parking Garage and on the fifth and sixth floors of UMKC's Cherry Street Parking Garage on all Kansas City Athletics game days, including games at Municipal Auditorium. The garage provides easy access to the UMKC streetcar stop at 51st Street and Brookside Blvd., allowing fans to park on campus and ride the free KC Streetcar downtown for men's basketball or walk to Swinney Center for women's basketball.
KC Streetcar and Kansas City Athletics are also partnering on collaborative social media campaigns showcasing how fans can incorporate the streetcar into their game day plans. The campaign will include a "golden ticket" scavenger hunt in late October, with participation details announced through social media channels.
Whether fans are riding to Municipal or Swinney, the partnership offers fans another way to connect with Kansas City's Division I team.
Kansas City men's and women's basketball tickets are on sale now at KCRoos.com/tickets or by calling 816-889-8758. Women's tickets start at just $60 for the season and men's just $99, with both featuring premium options including food and drink inclusion on the men's side.
