The field included a plethora of local schools, including athletes from: Mizzou, Southeast Missouri State, Western Illinois, Arkansas State, Columbia College, Fort Scott CC, Highland CC, Lincoln, MidAmerica Nazarene, Missouri S&T, and Missouri Valley.Â
"We had some good performances today," said head coach Benaud Shirley. "Overall we have a lot of work ahead of us and hopefully we continue to make improvements in the coming weeks."
Familiar with being at the top of the standings, Christopher Bryan added another first place finish to his resume. Bryan dominated the field in the long jump, posting a 7.40m jump. Owning the school record with a 7.70m jump last season, this mark is good for fourth best in school history.ÂIn his debut with the Roos, junior transfer Josh Benford broke a school record set back in 2002 in the high jump. Benford's mark of 2.12m broke the previous school record by .02m, but fell just short of a first place finish in the Missouri Intercollegiate.
"Josh (Benford) breaking the high jump school record in his first meet as a Roo was just awesome," said head coach Benaud Shirley. "Very excited to have him in our program."
Hailing from Springdale, Ark., Benford transferred from Avila University and joined the Roos last week.
"Overall IÂ felt good and was happy to be competing," said Benford. "There's a lot of progress and work to do, but just thankful to be able to get back into jumping."
On the women's side in field events, freshman Brooke Jenkins earned a second place finish in the long jump (5.51m). In her last outing in the Bob Timmons Challenge, she also earned a second place finish.Â
"I thought my performance was okay, there's a lot of room for improvement and i'm ready to get better." Jenkins said.Â
On the track, sophomore Sam Tudor notched a top-three performance in the 400m dash (50.71 seconds). Freshman Trey Seben also earned a top-three finish, with a time of 8.48 seconds in the 60m hurdles.ÂThe Roos will have a short break to get their legs fresh, then will head to Lawrence, Kan. for the Jayhawk Classic on Jan. 23-24.Â
