TULSA, Okla. -- Rylan Childers, the conference's leading goal scorer, recorded the game-winner in the 52nd minute and Kansas City Women's Soccer (7-1-2) stayed undefeated on the road with a 2-0 victory at Oral Roberts (3-6-1) this afternoon. The sophomore All-American had a chance at scoring on a penalty kick and kicked home her sixth of the season. The Roos improve to 2-0-2 in four road games this year.
"I'm extremely proud, to go on the road and get two wins this weekend is very exciting for our program!" said head coach Chris Cissell. "This was a tough week on our bodies with three games this week and two on the road but I am proud of our overall effort. I appreciate the girl's willingness to be coached and to handle the adjustments we made at half time and then we were able to go out and score two goals in the first seven minutes of the second half."
There was a lack of offense by both teams in the first 45 minutes. There were a combined eight overall shots (six by Kansas City) and two on goal. The score was 0-0 at the half.
But Kansas City made adjustments and attacked the defensive zone of Oral Roberts. Childers took a PK in the 52nd minute and staked the Roos to a 1-0 lead. She would get in the action again, this time with her sixth season assist, feeding a pass to Claire Larson for a goal in the 53rd minute. The marker was Larson's first of her four-year career.
With her three saves today, goalkeeper Erin Roth bettered her record to 4-1-1 in the goal this year. She now stands with three shutouts.
