Kansas City, Mo. -- Kansas City moves to 3-0-0 on the 2019 season with a 2-1 win over Eastern Illinois on a beautiful night at Durwood Stadium. This marks the best start in program history.

"I am extremely proud of the team starting the season with three straight victories," said head coach Chris Cissell. "We took 19 shots tonight and placed 12 on goal, but credit Eastern Illinois, they were able to keep us to only two goals."

Sophomore MF Rylan Childers put the Roos on the scoreboard early, scoring a goal in the 9th minute, her second goal on the season. Panthers defenders turned the ball over outside the box and Childers took the keeper on, putting it away in the bottom left corner.

Senior Carly Janike scored her first goal of the season in the 53rd minute, putting the Roos up 2-0. That goal marked Janike's 3rd in her career, with the last one scored on Oct. 27, 2018 vs.Chicago State.

The Roos defense was once again the staple for the squad, allowing zero shots on goal in the first half. The defense held the Panthers offense to only 5 percent possession in the attacking zone for the entire game. In the second half, Panthers MF Nicoletta Anuci broke free and sent a booming shot into the top right corner past Roos GK Afton Fennewald to put the Panthers on the scoreboard in the 76th minute.

"We allowed our first goal of the season, but I was proud to see the girls respond well to that," said head coach Chris Cissel. "Now, we will focus on recovery and getting ready for Western Illinois Sunday."
