LAWRENCE, Kan. --Â Kansas City Track and Field opened up its 2019-20 Indoor season at the Bob Timmons Challenge hosted by the University of Kansas.
Â
The field included teams from across the Midwest: Arkansas, Kansas, Haskell, Lincoln, Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts, Ottawa, Park U., and Southwestern Christian.
Â
Roos' athletes overall earned 13 top-five finishes.
Â
The men's team had two athletes, Christopher Bryan (60 m hurdles, long jump) and Gevon Foreman (weight throw) take the title in their respective events in Lawrence, Kan.
Â
Christopher Bryan competed in two individual events at the challenge and won them both. His 60 meter hurdle time of 8.25 paced the field and earned him his first ever title with the Roos in that category. His first place finish in long jump of 7.46 meters ranks second best in school history, right behind his PR of 7.70m he jumped last season at the WAC Indoor Championship.
Â
This marked Gevon Foreman's first competition with the Roos and first competition in division one. Foreman is a junior transfer from NAIA school Madonna University and showed out in his first appearance in field events. He claimed the title in weight throw, with a throw of 15.75m. He also placed second in shot put, with a throw of 14.58m.
Â
Sophomore sprinter Sam Tudor also performed well for the Roos on the track, placing third in the 200m dash with a PR time of 22.32.
Â
The women's team had a couple top performers in a very competitive field.
Â
Freshman Brooke Jenkins put together a solid first outing of her collegiate career for the Roos in jumps. She placed second in women's long jump, with a jump of 5.59m. Look for the freshman out of Saint Louis, Mo. to be a force to be reckoned with this season in jumps.
Â
In the field, freshman Stephanie Montenegro placed fourth in women's shot put, throwing 11.67m. She also placed sixth in weight throw, right behind Roos' freshman Dominika Baranska who placed fourth (12.95m).
Â
On the track, Shayla Davis came away with a fifth place finish in the 400m dash with a PR time of 1:06.25.
Â
The Roos will be back in action on January 17, when they head to the Missouri Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Missouri.
