PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Kansas City Women's Soccer (8-2-4, 0-1-2 WAC) tripped up on the road against Grand Canyon (3-9-1, 2-1-0 WAC) by a 2-0 count tonight at GCU Stadium. The Roos had an advantage with 6-to-4 in shots-on-goal, but couldn't break through against Grand Canyon goalkeeper Lauren Garthwaite.
"We just didn't have our 'A' game tonight," said head coach Chris Cissell. "We did not play well and we all are extremely disappointed. We created several really good scoring opportunities and just could not finish. I give credit to Grand Canyon for finishing their chances. We were pushing like crazy for the tying goal and just fell short. We will learn from this and get better and we will be ready to compete on Saturday at CSU Bakersfield."
Dani Babb put the hosts up 1-0 in the 20th minute. She dribbled around a pile of Roo defenders and used her right foot sending the ball to the top right section of the crossbar. The ball then deflected to an angle off the crossbar in the bottom right corner.
After Babb's first season marker, the Roos were behind at the half for just the third time this year.
GCU's Camryn Larson put home the team's second goal in the 79th minute, with assists going to Nyah Bonchonsky and Remmi Deutsch. That goal ended up being insurmountable for the Roos in the first road conference game of the season.
Erin Roth started her seventh-straight game in goal posting two saves. She dropped her season record to 5-2-3.
Offensively, senior defender Abby Small was the team leader with three shots and two on-target.
