UMKC Drops Close Match to Huskers, 4-3

LINCOLN, Neb. – UMKC men's tennis (5-3) competed until the end against Nebraska (1-7) on Saturday afternoon at the Dillon Tennis Center, but fell 4-3 to the Huskers. Both teams won three singles matches while the Huskers claimed the doubles point.
In singles play, Airam Castellano (Gran Canaria, Spain) fell to Dylan Bednarczyk in the No. 1 match, 3-6, 7-5, 6-2. Uldis Gaismins (Riga, Latvia) was beaten by Toby Boyer on the No. 2 court, 6-4, 6-1. Amaury Navette (Paris, France) defeated Tomislav Antoljak, 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 in No. 3 action. Tom Kruse (Flensburg, Germany) beat Chris Dean, 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 in the No. 4 matchup. Vinh Pham (Lenexa, Kan.) fell 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 in No. 5 play while Daniel Izadifar (Tonsberg, Norway) won over David Samardzija, 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 in the No. 6 match.
On the doubles court, Gaismins and Navette were beaten 6-4 by Bednarczyk and Dean in the No. 1 faceoff. Micah Klousia and Samardzija beat Castellano and Kruse 7-5 in the No. 2 match while Boyer and Jon Meyer were victorious over Pham and Izadifar on the No. 3 court.
UMKC returns home to face South Dakota State Sunday at 11 a.m. CT at the Kansas City Racquet Club in Merriam, Kansas.
