Roos Take Out ONU in Home Outing, 6-1

(Kansas City, Mo.) - The UMKC men's tennis squad played its first home outdoor contest of the season on Friday, taking out Olivet Nazarene by a 6-1 score.
The Roos (6-6) jumped out quickly agains the 18th ranked NAIA squad in the nation in ONU (1-5), taking easy doubles wins at No. 1 and No. 2 to seal the point, while the No. 3 spot went to a tiebreak. UMKC pulled it out though, and headed to singles with the 1-0 lead.
UMKC made it 2-0 after getting a win at No. 1 when Airam Castellano took a victory after taking a 5-3 lead early, only to see Oscar Cornella retire due to injury. Mike Psarros made it 3-0 after winning in straight sets, but each of the other four matches went to a deciding third set. UMKC prevailed in three of them though, with final set wins from Uldis Gaismins, Vinh Pham and Amaury Navette.
UMKC will be back in action on Wednesday at home against Northwest Missouri State in a doubleheader with the Roos women's team at 2 pm.
