Rozner Repeats As Champ, ?Roos Finish Third At Desert Shootout

(Kansas City, Mo.) – For the second straight year, Antoine Rozner left Goodyear, Ariz., as the individual champion of the Desert Shootout after finishing at -14 in the three round event at the Palm Valley Golf Club.
Rozner, who tied with Northern Illinois' Joo-Young Lee for the title, is the third straight 'Roo to medal at the event as Nathan Hughes also claimed the title in 2014.
The title is the fifth of Rozner's career, leaving him just two shy of Robert Russell for the most in school history.
The Paris, France, native opened the tournament hot, shooting a bogey-free 66 in the first round that ranks as the 10th best round in school history. Rozner added five more birdies in the second round, including his second straight on each of the par-4 4th, par-5 5th, par-3 7th and the par-5 11th. Rozner then closed the event with a 68 in the final round after birdieing four of his final five holes, including the final three holes to claim the title at -14, the fifth best score in UMKC history.
Not to be outdone, Francois Lagraulet finished just one shot behind Rozner in a tie for third at -13, the sixth best score in school history. Lagraulet opened round one on hole four and quickly notched two birdies. The Frenchman added four more birdies in the first round before closing it out with an eagle on the par-5 2nd for a 67. Lagraulet added four more birdies in the second round for a 69 and closed out the event with six birdies and just one bogey in the final round for his second 67 of the tournament.
Jakob Garstecki was the 'Roos third best finisher, placing in a tie for 42nd at -2 after carding 11 birdies over the three rounds, while Thibault Vieilledent finished in a tie for 57th at +1 after 12 birdies and an eagle on the par-5 2nd in round two.
Cameron Wiltse rounded out the UMKC lineup in a tie for 108th at +14.
As a team, Kansas City shot rounds of 274, 284 and 276 with the first and third round scores ranking as the second and seventh best rounds in school history, respectively, while the 823 is the second lowest tournament score in school history.
Iowa State claimed the team title in the event at -41, eight shots better than Kansas.
The Blue & Gold return to action tomorrow when they head to Canby, Ore., for the Airstream Adventures Northwest Classic on Mar. 21-22.
