(Eugene, Ore.) – UMKC's Courtney Frerichs will be at it again this weekend as she competes at the 2015 USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. She runs in the semifinals on Thursday at 9:05 p.m. CT, and will look to compete in the finals on Saturday at 3:55 p.m. CT. The Thursday semifinals will be webstreamed live at USATF.tv, while NBC will televise the finals live on Saturday.
She will be looking to earn a spot on the United States team that will compete at the 2015 IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China August 22-30, as well as other events like the Pan-Am Games. To make the United States World team, she must finish in the top three.
The Nixa, Mo. product currently has the fourth-fastest time this year among Americans, and will enter the week with the No. 6 seed time (9:31.36) among all steeple runners. The favorite will be former Colorado runner Emma Coburn, who has a seed time of 9:11.42, more than 12 seconds faster than the next best time.
Frerichs ran to a second-place finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase on June 13 at the NCAA Track and Field Championships, posting a personal record time of 9:31.36. That time is now the fourth-fastest in the NCAA all-time, and currently 13th in the world this year among all runners.
It was the fifth All-American honor of Frerichs' career, and third this school year for her, also earning it in cross country, and in the indoor 5,000 meters in 2014-15.
It capped a banner year for UMKC, as it was the fifth All-American performance of the season (Sophomores Martez Harrison in basketball and Bryce Miller in the steeplechase). It was also the 10th All-American performance in UMKC Division I history, meaning half of the honors came in 2014-15.
