NCAA West Preliminary Qualifying (hosted by Texas)
Frerichs and Miller Lead 'Roos at West Regionals, Qualify for Nationals

(Austin, Texas) - Junior Courtney Frerichs won the 3,000 meter steeplechase, while sophomore Bryce Miller set a school record in the same event, as both qualified for nationals with their performances in the NCAA West Regional this weekend. Also competing was junior Blake Hocking in the shot put and senior Josh Harden in the triple jump.
Hocking got the competition started on Friday night, taking 30th in the shot put with a toss of 57-7.75 on his second attempt.
Later in the night, Frerichs took the West Regional title in the steeple, posting a time of 9:48.30. She was six seconds ahead of Rachel Johnson of Baylor. The top 12 performers in each event qualified for nationals in Eugene, Oregon from June 10-13.
Miller followed with a career best and school record run in the men's steeple, taking the 12th and final spot in the national field with a time of 8:50.51.
The final competitor was Harden on Saturday night. He tallied at 49-1 to take 29th in the triple jump.
