MORAGA, Calif. – The 'Roos fell victim to stellar opposing pitching on Wednesday, managing just one run over a pair of games, falling to Saint Mary's 2-1 and 8-0, respectively.
Despite an outstanding performance in the circle from Cinda Ramos, the 'Roos were on the wrong end of a pitcher's duel in game one.
Ramos pitched her second complete game of the season, scattering five hits and allowing just one earned run while striking out five batters, but UMKC was unable to solve opposing pitcher Katie Moss, who struck out eight batters in a complete game three-hitter to keep the 'Roos at bay.
UMKC managed to cut a two-run deficit in half in the fifth inning following a one-out double by Alexandra Friloux. Brooke Parker pinch ran for the 'Roos' catcher and the substitution paid immediate dividends, as Parker scored from second base on a sacrifice bunt by Kelsey Leach one batter later.
Lujane Mussadi proved to be infallible in the second game of the double-dip, allowing just three hits and facing only 18 batters in a five-inning complete game shutout.
UMKC begins conference play at Bakersfield on Friday.
