?Roos Hammer Roadrunners in Second Game of Doubleheader

MORAGA, Calif. – The 'Roos split their conference-opening doubleheader versus Bakersfield on Friday, hammering the Roadrunners 12-2 in game two after falling 5-4 in extra innings to begin the afternoon.
Marlee Maples got UMKC (18-17) off on the right foot in game one, blasting a two-run home run following a Caitlin Christopher double to put the 'Roos on the scoreboard first. UMKC added to its lead with a pair of unearned runs in the fifth inning and took a 4-1 lead into the home half.
The 'Roos left no doubt in the second game of the double-dip. UMKC took the lead in the top of the first inning after Brooke Parker singled to lead off the game, stole second, and advanced to third. One batter later, Ramos drove her in on a ground ball to short stop. The 'Roos added a run on catcher's interference and Ashlin O'Brien drove in two more with a RBI single to centerfield to give UMKC a 4-0 lead after one.
The 'Roos added a run in the third inning when O'Brien was hit by a pitch to force in a run, and another in the fourth when Katie Kelley was walked to force in another. UMKC added three more in the fifth, courtesy of RBIs by Ramos and Christopher and another unearned run via error by the 'Runners.
UMKC capped the scoring in the sixth inning by virtue of an Alexandra Friloux RBI double, a Brooke Parker RBI single, and a RBI HBP for Ramos.
The 'Roos will wrap up the series with Bakersfield tomorrow afternoon, capping their spring break road trip in California.
