(Las Cruces, N.M.) - The Kangaroo men's tennis team was unable to get on track Saturday, dropping a 4-0 elimination match in the WAC Tournament semifinals to host and No. 1 seed New Mexico State.
The match was moved to earlier in the day due to high winds, and the league decided all matches would play singles first, and move to doubles if needed after the conclusion of singles action. Kansas City (8-15) was unable to extend it though, as New Mexico State (12-10) came out fast.
The Aggies took wins at No. 3 and No. 5 right out of the gates in straight sets, but it had to battle to get the third point at the No. 1 spot from senior Tomas Patino. After a set one win by the hosts, Patino came back to win the second by a 6-4 margin. In the end it was Strahinja Trecakov that pulled out the victory though, winning the final set 6-4. The dual was then clinched at No. 6 in straight sets.
The Aggies will play in the championship match on Sunday against second-seeded Idaho for the right to play in the NCAA Tournament.
